Earthworks started at Mellows Park

Following representations by local residents at the last Beddington & Wallington Local Committee calling for action to prevent further illegal encampments in Mellows Park by Travellers, it was agreed that the best solution was to install earth mounds along the open perimeters of the park. It was noted as a method that had been used successfully in Croydon parks and would not spoil the look of the park.

Today work began at the park to build the earth mounds. These will be sown with grass seed and will therefore blend in with the verges in time.

Only time will tell if they prove effective. Let’s hope so.

    • I just saw that a caravan had got in on my way past today and wondered how they had got in as the earthworks didn’t appear to have been breached. There are police on site and as it is just one vehicle there can be no doubt who is responsible for knocking down the wall. I hope that the council’s improved approach moves them on quickly before any more come to join them.
