Diary of a Sutton Councillor

Thursday 5th June 7.30pm

Health & Wellbeing Scrutiny Committee

Main items on the agenda were Hospital Acquired Infections with a presentation from a representative of Mayday Hospital to provide comparative figures of MRSA & C Difficile incidences and to discuss their approach to tackling these problems. Mayday had managed to reduce their incidences of MRSA by 50% and provided us with a copy of their action plan. The committee agreed that we now had sufficient evidence to prepare a report on the topic with recommendations.

We were advised of the progress of moving patients from Orchard Hill and the committee requested that an update on progress to come to the September committee.

There was some discussion around the issues of aggressive incidences towards Adult Social Services staff and what procedures were in place to ensure the health & safety of staff. The committee agreed to look into this topic in more detail.

Thursday 5th June 10am

Health & Wellbeing Scrutiny Review Group

Sutton Housing Partnership Audit Comission Report

Cllrs. Stuart Gordon-Bullock, Jonathon Pritchard & I met to discuss our views on the action plan prepared in response to the Audit Commission’s report. Stuart & I had made a few notes just to tighten up bits, but were generally happy that the plan addressed all the concerns raised in the report.

We agreed that we needed to find out more about the arrangements set up to performance manage the implementation of the plan before we could determine the scrutiny approach, but generally felt that a ‘light touch’ was all that would be required. This recommendation would be passed on to the committee that evening.
