Diary of a Sutton Councillor

Wizard man switching on Sutton Christmas lights

flashing_fiber_optic_wizard_hat11Thanks to an online petition started by Billie-Jo Maynard and signed by over 2600 people, colourful local character and self-styled pagan priest Conrad Pugsley was invited to participate in the switching on the Christmas lights celebrations in Sutton, alongside SpongeBob SquarePants and Peppa Pig.

As Billie-Jo and his fellow signatories are so professedly fond of our resident wizard I trust someone will be extending him an invitation to Christmas Lunch!

  1. In the light of subsequent events you might be better to keep this one under your hat.

  2. Thanks Adrian but I think you have missed my point. The events you mention show how a lighthearted prank can have unfortunate consequences. The true victim here is Mr Pugsley. The online petition was obviously meant to be a bit of fun and I wonder if it was ever meant to be taken seriously. However the joke was always on Mr Pugsley, and his upset at the resulting turn of events from others taking it all too seriously is very sad.

If people are so fond of our local wizard then a bit of ordinary Christmas charity would be more appropriate than setting him up as a figure of fun to be paraded about the town centre.

  3. What? The FB group didn’t set him up, and there is a new FB campaign to get Mr Pugsley an apology!

ASDA refused to let him up and sent a fake wizard in his place.
