Meeting with Epsom & St Helier NHS Trust Chief Executives

Cllr Gordon-Bullock & I met with Sam Jones the Chief Executive of the NHS Trust and Peter Coles who will be taking over Ms Jones’ position whilst she is on maternity leave. Stuart & I as chair & vice-chair of the Health & Well Being Scrutiny committee wanted to meet with Ms Jones to discuss the annual Health Commission report we are requested to comment on and to get an update from the Trust before she leaves.

We were pleased to hear that the Hospital Acquired Infection rates were continuing to fall and the Trust had received a good report following on from an unannounced spot-check by the Healthcare Commission.

We were advised of the difficulties faced by the hospitals over the New Year period as a result of the flu virus and Nova virus particularly affecting the elderly.

I enquired about the progress of the refurbishment of the Maternity Unit and was advised that it should be completed by the end of March.

We welcomed Peter Coles to the Trust and learnt that he has experience of the Chief Executive’s position with other Trusts, and wished Ms Jones well with her pregnancy.
