Diary of a Sutton Councillor

Thursday 19th March

10am: I met with the chair and officers of the Health & Well Being Scrutiny Committee to discuss future committee agendas and the workplan.

1.30pm: Meeting with Gill Bull’ Executive Head of Policy and Communications; Steve Farrow who heads up the Public Realm programme; Linda Wood from The Corporate Policy and Partnerships Team and Janet Lowne chair of the Sutton Local Committee to discuss progress on our Public Realm projects. Janet & I had experienced delays on delivery of some of the projects that had received approval at our Local Committees and we were keen to see what the problems were and see if better progress could be made. I was particularly concerned about the hanging baskets much desired by the Beddington & Wallington Local Committee which seemed to encounter one problem after another. I felt that the credibility of the committee would be questioned if the baskets did not appear soon. I have now been advised that we can expect the baskets to be in place in Wallington & Wallington Green by the end of May.

7pm: Mayor’s Reception for Wallington Residents. The Mayor has a tradition of inviting a number of residents from specific areas of the borough, selected at random, to the Mayor’s Chamber for a reception. A representative of the three ward councillors is also invited and so I attended on behalf of Wallington South. It is always good to meet with residents in this relaxed environment and chat generally about their lives.
