Wallington Integrated Transport Package Steering Group

True to its name the aim of this group is to steer the plans for the Wallington Integrated Transport Package. This package is the result of Transport for London providing a larger sum of money to improve travel and transport routes on an area basis. In the past this money had been provided on an individual scheme basis through a bidding process which led to patchy and disjointed works.

The meeting was chaired by Cllr. Colin Hall and membership consisted of members for Wallington North and South, together with community representatives from the Beddington & Wallington Local Committee who had expressed an interest in being involved. Representatives from local businesses had also been invited.

The project is being managed by Lee Parker of Sutton Council, and he was accompanied at the meeting by Mark Powers of JMP Consultants who had managed the consultation on the package. Darren Richards, Executive Head of Planning and Transportation at Sutton Council also attended.

The group were provided with some background on the programme and details of the engagement work undertaken so far. We were presented with the results of the first stage of engagement which had asked residents for their views on what improvements could be made in Wallington town centre.

There was then some general discussion about the issues to be addressed in Wallington.

It was proposed to hold some community design workshops to enable interested residents to be involved in developing the proposals for the scheme. It was agreed for the steering group to meet again to discuss how these workshops should operate.
