Carers Partnership Board

Election over, voted back in and straight back to work.

We spent a good amount of time on the refresh of the Multi-Agency Carers Commissioning Strategy. We were pleased to welcome Tim Deeprose from the Sutton & Merton PCT who advised that the PCT had some additional input to make into the strategy, but were supportive. Tim also advised on PCT spending on carers respite.

Pat Berlin attended to provide an update on what was happening in adult social services commissioning and outlined some of the key projects. Julie Wilson also mentioned that the Advocacy Service was out to tender.

Andrew Clark & Simon Latham provided an update on the initial roll out of the Transforming Lives programme. They advised that the programme was going slower than they had hoped, however twenty people had now gone through the self assessment and support plan process.

Simon Breeze advised of the Department of Health’s 2010 Carers User Experience Survey and provided a summary of the responses.

Marilynne Burbage reported back from the Sutton Adults Partnership and the Sutton Partnership Board and sought agreement that I should write on behalf of the Carers Partnership board to the other Partnership Boards asking for early notification about any matters which may impact on carers to enable carers to input their views.

The Sutton Adult Partnership had requested feedback from the board on how the public sector recession was likely to impact on carers. Members were requested to consider this & feedback by the next meeting.

The Board was due to elect the chair and vice chair for the next year. I advised that I had been appointed to the Executive and so would be standing down as chair and as Carers Champion as I felt I would not be able to give sufficient time to the role. It was accepted that I would always champion the cause of carers but it would be good to seek out a new champion to continue to spread the message and to bring fresh perspective to the role. I was very touched by the thanks and kind words expressed by members of the Board.

Ken Fish was re-elected as vice chair.
