Diary of a Sutton Councillor

Wallington weather update 2nd December 2010

Up to 15 cm of snow fell overnight in Sutton. As a result all local schools are closed today.

Train services are severely disrupted with many trains cancelled.

The major roads and red routes in the area have been gritted and the light traffic means that vehicles are moving freely, although it also means that some of the grit has not been ‘activated’. Bus services are operational. The side roads remain problematic for vehicles.

The borough’s leisure centres and libraries are open.

Meals on Wheels are operational but adult social services is experiencing difficulties.

Refuse collection is suspended and all refuse, street cleaning & parks teams diverted to snow clearing duties.

The best advice is not to travel unless your journey is essential, and if you do make sure you are well prepared for any eventuality. Please check on any elderly or vulnerable neighbours.
