Diary of a Sutton Councillor

Wallington conditions update Friday 3rd December 2010

All local schools are closed (further afield Sutton Grammar & Dorchester Primary are open). All expected to be open on Monday.

Sutton libraries and leisure centres are open.

Waste collection has restarted.

Main roads are clear for vehicles and traffic is light. Pavements in shopping centres have been gritted but side roads still have snow.

Wallington post office was closed yesterday and I expect will be today.

Train services remain severely disrupted. Bus services appear to be operating well.

Grit bins are being replenished regularly thanks to the help of residents advising when stocks get low. Please see earlier post for advice on using the grit.

Meels on Wheels is operational.

Social services – day centres are closed and staff are responding to priority and urgent need.

Sutton council is posting regular condition updates on its website. You can check Transport for London’s website for live London travel information and National Rail’s for train service information.

Wallington Sainsbury’s was packed yesterday, and I expect it will be the same today.

Don’t forget to look out for your elderly or vulnerable neighbours.

If you are travelling be prepared for longer than normal journeys and pack some supplies – water, snacks & a fully charged phone. And don’t forget to dress appropriately for the conditions – not high heeled boots that I saw one woman tackling the snow in yesterday!
