Diary of a Sutton Councillor

Thursday 17th February 2011 4.30pm

Meeting with Andrew Stunell MP

I attended this meeting with the council leader Sean Brennan and deputy leader Ruth Dombey to discuss Sutton’s progress with its Big Society projects. Cllr Brennan talked about barrier busting whilst I was able to talk about how community involvement is at the heart of everything we do in Sutton, using the example of the Wallington Steering Group meeting that had inspired me the previous evening. I explained how the biggest champions of the scheme were the residents, because the plans had been developed based on their ideas and concerns. It also showed how much the success of Smarter Travel Sutton was down to Sutton residents’ support for the principles of sustainable transport.

As we had just received details of Sutton’s Decent Homes funding allocation the meeting provided an opportunity to clarify some of the conditions of the allocation.
