Diary of a Sutton Councillor

Equality applies to marriage too

If we believe that humans are created equal, and that they have equal rights to freedom; be that freedom of expression or freedom from oppression or persecution based on race, gender, sexuality, or religion, then we cannot accept a two tier system of marriage. To do so automatically implies that homosexual couples do not deserve the same status and recognition as heterosexual ones, and this distinction is based purely on the incidence of their sexuality.

I find it interesting that our legislators and state leaders have grasped this fact, along with a large proportion of the general population, and yet our religious leaders; our self-appointed moral guardians; are the ones most vehemently opposed to affording all humans true equality.
