Diary of a Sutton Councillor

Economic Development Advisory Group

I am looking forward to today’s meeting of the Economic Development Advisory Group as it has some exciting agenda items.

First we are discussing Sutton’s response to the Portas Review and agreeing a number of actions and initiatives to take forward as a result of the additional insight this has given us.

We will also be getting feedback from Sutton’s attendance at a ‘Sitematch London Event’, an initiative created by 3Fox International and Ealing Council and supported by the Mayor of London. The purpose of the event is to bring together developers and local authorities with sites available for development in a ‘speed dating’ format. Apparently there was significant interest in Sutton as an area for development and a number of developers with specific interest in Victoria House. I certainly want to hear more about that!

As well as our usual Economy Watch quarterly report mapping local economic activity and recession impacts we will be discussing progress on our economic strategy refresh: the Sutton Statement, which will set out clearly our ambition for Sutton’s local economy and our commitment to supporting business, assisting residents in securing training and employment, and attracting inward investment to Sutton.

Finally we will be advised of the timetable and implementation plans for our Outer London Fund bid projects in Hackbridge and North Cheam and WorcesterPark.

It is going to be a busy meeting!
