Diary of a Sutton Councillor

Sutton gives a warm welcome to Metro Bank

Metro opening, Dean murphy,Jayne mccoyToday I met with Dean Murphy,  local director of the new Sutton branch of Metro Bank to welcome him and his team to Sutton. Their branch opening celebrations take place over today and tomorrow and Dean told me that they already had high numbers of local people signing up for an account with the branch. There was certainly a buzz about the place.

I had met previously with Craig Donaldson, the Banks CEO, when a Sutton branch was just a possibility, and I was impressed by Craig’s passion for ‘old-fashioned high street banking’. Metro Bank does not do investment banking, but focusses on good customer service. The key attraction for me was having a branch that was open seven days a week, at times that suit the customer.

The bank is therefore a very welcome addition to our High Street, together with the jobs it has provided. I wish the branch every success and hear they have a special dog-centred attraction planned for Saturday!
