Walking Out Of Darkness – Fundraising for CLASP

2013-12-08 16.15.33

I have entered the Walking Out Of Darkness  25 mile overnight walk around the London Thames Path fundraising for the charity CLASP.

CLASP raises awareness, support and funds for those suffering the stigma surrounding mental and stress related illness and suicide. The charity states that suicide is preventable with help and support.

I have set up a JustGiving page and any support for this worthwhile cause would be very welcome.

The walk takes place on 19th July, and I have been fitting  my training around my council work as best I can.

Update July 2014

Participants in the Walking Out of Darkness Event have been advised that the event has sadly had to be postponed until either September or October as there have been problems getting permission from some of the London Boroughs through which the walk planned to go. I am hoping that as the event has the support of the Mayor of London, Boris Johnson he will be able to assist the charity in finding a way through this difficulty. The silver lining is that I have have longer to train for the event! If the worst case scenario occurs and the event cannot be rescheduled then I pledge to undertake an individual  25 mile walk on the weekend of 27th September in a circuit around London as planned. All donations will go to CLASP as intended.

Thank you to all those people who have very generously donated already.

Update October 2014

Fortunately the walk was able to be reschedule to October 11th, but as it is colder and darker the walk has been revised to be a 10 mile daytime walk. An overnight walk is planned for next year and I have already committed to that. In the meantime I will be doing the 10 mile walk on Saturday 10th. There is still time to donate. Thank you to everyone who already has.
